Book suggested by Nova SBE Professor Carmen Lages.
Jon Kabat-Zinn changed the way we thought about awareness in everyday life with his now-classic introduction to mindfulness.
Coming to Our Senses provides the definitive book for our time on the connection between mindfulness and our physical and spiritual wellbeing. With scientific rigor, poetic deftness, and compelling personal stories, Jon Kabat-Zinn examines the mysteries and marvels of our minds and bodies, describing simple, intuitive ways in which we can come to a deeper understanding, through our senses, of our beauty, our genius, and our life path in a complicated, fear-driven, and rapidly changing world.
Data is transforming the world, challenging the way we think and serving some of the most powerful companies. But, can we use it to serve social good?
The project Data Science for Social Good was born with this purpose at Chicago University, in 2013. A partnership between the Municipality of Cascais and Nova SBE brought the project to Europe in 2017. Its summer program trains data scientists close to the government and ONGs to solve real problem in different areas of public interest, such as education, health or safety through data mining, machine learning and big data.
The final presentations of the 2018 Summer Fellowship Program of Data Science for Social Good Europe will take place on August 16th at 10:30 a.m. at Nova School of Business & Economics’ Carcavelos Campus, followed by lunch. Get your ticket 2018 for the Summit of the Summer Fellowship Program of Data Science for Social Good Europe here.
This event will bring together data scientists and policy and decision-makers from all over the world who have been intensively working together for the last three months to solve some of the most pressing societal challenges of the 21st century. To do this, fellows worked hand in hand with project partners to achieve one common goal:

We do all know that due to technology we work 24 daily hours, increasing the stress levels and the burnout causes. However it has an opposite effect on productivity.
Based on robust empirical work, this book reveals the effects of inadequate management and contemporary work culture on people, companies and society while it offers some clues to address the problem.
Raúl Galamba, MBA ’89, challenged Nova School of Business & Economics to launch a merit-based scholarship to award the best MSc talent in the school. Nova SBE Fellowship for Excellence celebrates not only academic excellence, but also proven contribution to society (sports, social causes, entrepreneurship). The program is a talent development platform where fellows are awarded a scholarship and the opportunity to attend a set of activities to leverage their potential and their inspiring contribution to society and the world.
Hear from the 1st generation of Nova SBE Fellows:
The future of our world, of our society, depends on the skills, the values, and attitude we develop in the young generations. This program attracts, trains, and develops young talent to have a responsible impact in the organizations, in our society, and in the world in general. Meet the 2017/2018 Nova SBE Fellows, their background and aspirations and be inspired by how much they accomplish and how they manage to change the world with their deeds.
The Nova SBE Fellowship for Excellence promotes an ecosystem where energy and creativity turn into deeds, setting the foundations of a future that is based on the values of openness, worldliness, and connectivity that define Nova School of Business & Economics’ mission and inspire students to foster creativity, responsibility and most of all their own talent.
